Big Box Moratorium Hearing
The City Council will be taking another round of public comments on the large scale retail moratorium. So if you’re kicking yourself for not putting in your two cents last time, this is your chance, either in person at the October 25th City Council meeting, or in writing ahead of time. Check the Tacoma Daily Index for details of the large scale retail moratorium hearing.
Project Homeless Connect
Next Wednesday, October 26th is Project Homeless Connect, a one-day services fair for the homeless in our community. A variety of much needed medical, dental, vision and personal care screenings and services will be available to Pierce County’s homeless families and individuals free of charge. It’s a bit of a cliche to say times are tough all around, but as the nights and days turn colder and wetter, they’re even tougher for those without a roof of their own. If you’d like to learn more, or feel moved to donate, check out the Pierce County Project Homeless Connect website or find them on Facebook.
Holiday Food and Gift Festival
This is the year. You’re finally going to do it – you’re going to get your shopping/decorating/card writing/etc done early so you can just enjoy the holidays with your loved ones (and enjoy gloating over those of us who haven’t). The Tacoma Holiday Food and Gift Show is just the place to start. Today through Sunday the Tacoma Dome will be transformed into a winter wonderland complete with unique hand-crafted gifts, cooking demonstrations, and what we can only expect will be oodles of inspiration for making this the most festive holiday season ever. See what it’s all about at the Tacoma Holiday Food and Gift Festival website
Galas, Gaylas, Galas! On November 5th
Saturday November 5th appears to be a big day for galas in Tacoma, so bring out the black tie and the LBD and take your pick of events:
Project:U, a United Way of Pierce County program for people in their 20s and 30s, is throwing a shindig they’re calling The Gig (Get Involved Gala) at the Tacoma Art Museum, with proceeds going to support the UWPC’s Community Solutions Fund. This event is the first of its size for Project:U, a group you may know for their smaller scale fundraising and volunteer events, all with the goal of getting Pierce County residents engaged in serving their community. Tacoma’s Rainbow Center isn’t new to the gala thing, but they spell it a little differently. They’re counting down the days until their 9th Annual Black and White Gayla, which will be at the Hotel Murano, and promises a number of auction items to support the Rainbow Center mission of putting an end to discrimination based on gender orientation and sexual identity. And if you just can’t wait that long to get all dolled up for a big event, October 29th is the Northwest Sinfonietta Gala. Aside from supporting a great arts organization in our community, this event will give you the opportunity to be one of the first to see the inside of the new LeMay Car Museum. Red Hot Tonight – Widmer Rotator IPA Series Brewers Night
So maybe galas aren’t your scene, or maybe your tux is at the tailor after that last event… We can sympathize. And we have something for you too. Step into your finest jeans and t-shirt this evening, and step out to the Red Hot for a little high class IPA tasting, Tacoma style. No RSVP required, but get there early for the good barstools.
