Weekend Arts Preview: Dec 7 - 9
All of Tacoma’s arts events this weekend seem to have a holiday feel.
Standing out is the Seattle Men’s Chorus, which performs at the Rialto Theater Saturday afternoon at 3:00 pm. Live music and lots of fun. It’s a great way to get excited about wrapping presents and great aunt Doris.
Speaking of holiday spirit, don’t forget that the Tacoma City Ballet’s version of the Nutcracker starts at the Pantages this weekend. The live performance is accompanied by the Northwest Sinfonietta. If you can’t make it this weekend, it runs through Dec. 23rd.
Last week we reviewed the production of “The Santaland Diaries,” and recommended it (though we also recommend reading the review first and deciding whether it’s for you). This is its last weekend.
We were also reminded that Tom Stoppard’s wonderful play Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead plays at PLU Saturday and Sunday.
Whatever your holiday tradition, this is a great weekend to enjoy the arts.

A couple weeks ago I saw posters for two events this weekend—one was at a church and the other may have been at a church too. At any rate, both were choral music and neither was the Christmas Revels (which really should be called the Solstice Revels). Does anyone know of any choral group performances this weekend? I’d really like to go to some.

Natalie:
Two chances to see The Messiah: Friday, Tacoma Symphony and Chorale,at St. Charles Borromeo (sp?). Or, if you want to driver further, on Saturday night the Bremerton Symphony and Chorale.

(That would be “drive further”)

Actually, Jamie, it’s drive “farther.” Farther refers to distances, further to more abstract concepts like pushing an argument further.
In case you really wanted to know …

Neat, an English lesson! (But how do you know that I wasn’t talking about Ken Kesey’s bus?)

Then it would most certainly be appropriate. As in, Hey Key, let me drive further today. I want to go out to the glo in the dark forest and have some LSD and be a merry prankster again.

Thanks for the notice, Jamie. And, technically, wouldn’t you say, “Hey Ken, let me drive Further today.” Surely Ken had enough respect for Further (or, if you prefer, Furthur) that he addressed it, even in his LSD-laced hallucinations with a big, floating, irridescent F. (By the way, a good friend of mine grew up next to the Kesey Kompound in Pleasant Hill and is a friend of Kesey’s son, Zane.)
