Weekend Preview: 'green' without spending it

This weekend holds the annual Park Appreciation on Saturday, and there are a host of “green” activities that can get you more in touch with Mother Nature without spending wads of cash.

Get closer to other dwellers of this planet, for example, by visiting Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium. The zoo has a host of hands-on activities in store this weekend that include games and crafts and visit with local environmentally-focused organizations. Folks can, for example, learn how to shrink their carbon pawprint as polar bears lick away climate change from the viewing windows with icing.

To get your hands dirty for the cause of nature, try stopping by your neighborhood park, where Metro Parks will be hosting Park Appreciation clean up and activities on Saturday.

For more capitalistically active events associated with nature, the Spring Fair in Puyallup runs through Sunday. Alongside the pig races and rabbit displays, there will be some less-than-environmentally sports on display, namely Demolition Derbies on tap Saturday and Sunday. This year’s Slamfest Demolition Derby will be better than ever with two BIG shows. Both derbies feature the ever-popular Rollover.

And with that, the weekend will end.
