Weekend Preview: blue skies

While the forecast calls for a mixed bag of weather … still, the temperature inside the Stonegate will be hot… blue hot.
The Stonegate has some shows worth seeing this weekend. The hit show is a return of the two-time South Sound Blues Association challenge winner, The Michal Miller Band. The gaggle of musicians is also on its way to international competition this summer for the International Blues Challenge Memphis.
Later this week, the Speakeasy “Booze and Booty” scavenger hunt Sunday is all set to launch. Teams of five will meet at the art co-op at 2 p.m. with digital cameras in hand to bound around town that might just include shots of bars. The grand cash prize will be more than $100, porportionate to attendance.
Tacoma Little Theatre’s production of George Bernard Shaw’s “Major Barbara” ends its run this weekend. The story centers on Barbara, a major in the Salvation Army, who has issues with her power-starved father, who just happens to be an arms manufacturer. Shaw’s ideas and insights about the world of humanity are as timely and humorous as they were when he wrote them 100 years ago.
Tacoma Little Theatre is located at 210 N. I St. The show runs today and tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.
For another classic, and a bit of a drive, Lakewood Playhouse is staging John Steinbeck’s “The Grapes of Wrath.” This show about the Dust Bowl is just as current as the headlines as it deals with the drive of people to better their lives. The show runs at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and at 2 p.m. on Sundays through June 20, which is a week later than first scheduled because audiences are filling out the seats for this show.
