Weekend Preview: Film fun

There is something about film that makes it both a communal and a solidary art form. How is it that going to a movie can be considered a “date” since narry a word is exchanged while the lights are out? Toss in a drink after the show, and that might be a date, but that is a discussion for another time. Those folks in search of solidary “date” options have a few to chose from this weekend.

Tacoma Community College is kicking off its Diversity Film Festival at the Grand Cinema with “Reel Injun” and “Miracle at St. Anna.” Other films are set for Sunday and next Wednesday and Thursday in an effort to promote equity and understanding with targeted movies on racial issues.

Sunday brings Tacoma Cult Movie Club’s Two Year Anniversary Extravaganza. This event will be a potluck starting at 4 p.m. at the Acme Grub Cage followed by the “best of the worst” movies the club screened during the last two years as determined by a polling of the viewers. Expect zombies, bouncing boobies and lots of fake blood and bad dialogue.

With all the time in the dark with that “date,” you will have plenty of opportunities to do the yawn and reach move to turn movie watching into a snuggle party.
