Weekend Preview: Monsoon Season

The rain found locally this weekend provides a great prop for the coming Bollywood Adult Prom at Sanford & Son Antiques Library, 744 Commerce, on Saturday. It will be monsoon season with glitter and glam at this annual benefit event.

All the color and dance and smells of the Hindi movie industry found in India, known as “Bollywood.” The name comes from the merging of Bombay, the former name of Mumbai, and Hollywood – to denote its standing as the center of movie making.

The Hindi movie industry is known for its musicals, clashy and colorful costumes and good-versus-bad plots. And a taste of it comes to Tacoma with this year’s prom. On the list of bands set to play are Girl Trouble, Si Si Si and DJ Infinity. The event benefits the Companion Animal Rescue Society. Tickets are $25 at the door, which open at 7 p.m. and close at midnight.
