Weekend Preview: see art, buy art, eat art, view art

Well ladies and gentlemen, it is that time of the month again… no not THAT time. Third Thursday Artwalk time. And this month offers a buffet of sensory offerings for all art tastes.

First off the menu is the salad bar of galleries and museums that open their doors for free viewings of art and displays of all sorts around Tacoma tonight. There are too many venues to list, but suffice it to say, there is something for every palette. Sample all you can during the monthly event from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

With the art taste buds sparked by viewing art of all sorts, the 253 Collective and Tacoma Art Place are partnering to offer Lorraine Toler’s art for purchase by silent auction with a portion of the proceeds going support Tacoma Art Place mission of bringing art lessons to the public.

The 253 Collective is located on Jefferson just across from The Swiss.

For art of a different sort as a way to close out the night, the Pacific Grill is offering an open house of its new Noodle Bar starting at 9 p.m. Diners can first customize their own Ramen bowls while they enjoy Asian street foods and drink Japanese sakes and beers at Happy Hour prices.

For art of a theatrical sort this weekend, Tacoma Little Theatre is presenting “Brunch,” a comedic play by local playwright Elliot Weiner starting Friday.
The show centers on three friends who regularly meet for brunch, that is until their tradition is challenged by three new friends who join the group. “Brunch” is directed by Naarah McDonald and features Scott C. Brown, Bryan Bender, Jefri Peters, Dana Clark, Jane McKittrick and Russ Coffey.

Tacoma Little Theatre is located at 210 N. I St. “Brunch runs Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays at 2 p.m. through June 27. All tickets are $15.

Saturday offers a big helping of cinema artsy stuff with the world premiere of “Quiet Shoes” at 7 p.m. at the Rialto Theater. Produced during a four-year period in and around Tacoma by local filmmaking talent Isaac Olsen in conjunction with Kurt Kendall, “Quiet Shoes” is a film-noir comedy that features members of local rock legends Girl Trouble. The flick tells the story of Rick Savage, a down-on-his-luck gumshoe destined for failure, that is until he acquires a new pair of shoes. Tickets are $12 and available online, at the Grand Cinema box office and Sanford & Sons Antiques.

With eyes, walls, bellies and minds filled with all things art this weekend, Monday will likely be a downer… And the forecast calls for rain. Good grief.

steve, you’re like the tacoma quagmire but a little more scarier because you’re real.

olsen never went to film school? in film school, you learn to polish your turds. other wise you just have a turd that is lighted crappy, has really crappy sound, and has garbage composition and camera movements. what? picasso went to art school in barcelona.
eraserhead took 7 years to make in a back lot at afi with people who knew what the fck they were doing in the first place. anyone who knows anything about no-budget films knows mumblecore is the genre to fck with. you think i’m harsh? you should have heard warren etheredge speak at the last tacoma film festivus.
though seeing the gondry sized revolver in quiet shoes in action is probably going to be worth the $12 rialto rip off.

Hey leave me and my frustrated bait gulping ass out of this.

And don’t make fun of Steven either, he did turn out to be the biggest bait gulper on this thread, and is obviously a total Mr Roper, but at least he tries to moderate the troglodyte bashing.

Yes, Steven does know how to read, just not interpret exactly what the guidelines for comments mean when they say attack the writing.

Thanks though, inacoma, for pointing out how the readers to whom your jabs truly apply, will time and time again take the bait thus proving all your points, and be pitifully unable to control themselves on a thread that you have deemed worthy of critiquing in your own, original, non-counterfeit way.

Quiet shoes looks pretty good to me.
I have next week off (huzzah!) I’ll have to check it out.
