Weekend Preview: something for kids, families, singles
Tacoma offers a bit of something for everyone this weekend.
Kiddos in the 253 might want to visit Children’s Museum of Tacoma Friday because it offers free admission to anyone looking to have some educational play. The museum provides a host of structured and educational activities for all sorts of active children. The museum’s newest exhibit is “Zing! The Power of Play.” The activity spot includes costumes and props to jumpstart any child’s imaginative process.
Parents pulling kiddo duty should consider Tacoma Little Theatre’s opening this weekend of the farce “A Flea in Her Ear.” This version of Georges Feydeau’s wild comedy of mistaken identities, motives and actions is perfect for smart families attuned to quick humor. Raymonde, the wife of Chandebise, suspects him of having an affair. She receives “evidence” of his infidelity and decides to catch him in the act. As it turns out, Chandebise is a good and faithful husband. Raymonde’s plot backfires, leading to chaos. The show runs Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through March 27.
Another option is Lakewood Playhouse, which is continuing its run of My Name is Asher Lev. The show is directed by Lakewood’s Marcus Walker, who is currently battling cancer and staging this show during his battle. The story tells the tale of a young gifted artist torn between his Orthodox Jewish faith and his passion to paint the truth. The show plays weekends through March 20.
Another fun thought is “Java Tacoma Episode 37, “Ashes to Ashes, Cup to Cup” set to stage Friday and Saturday nights at The Trinity Fellowship Hall. This staged sitcom of all things Tacoma, written by playwright Curtis B. Swanson, is the continuing tale of three best friends who meet daily for hot coffee and even hotter gossip. The show gets a bit blue at times, so it is not recommended for younger audiences.
Bars around town are holding Mardi Gras parties this weekend. One party of note will be held at Encore , which will have giveaways and $5 New Orleans Hand Grenade drink specials all night. This joint has a strict dress code, so patrons should dress to impress (or go some place other than Encore) (or go some place other than Encore) (or go some place other than Encore) (or go some place other than Encore).
If the rumors are to be believed, the weekend will end shortly after that.
