Weekend Preview: sweaty art

It is going to be a hot time in T-town this weekend.

Tops on the list of sweat-inducing activities is the Artifakt Live Art and Music Show tonight at Hell’s Kitchen. Featured attractions include: Pioneers West, Elbow Coulee and Tacoma’s resident burlesque troupe, The Gritty City Sirens. Topping it off will be artists showcasing their work and several opportunities to watch body painting in action.

For a “thinker play” that will get the brain going and the laughter muscles in tune, Gold From Straw Theatre Company will be opening its latest show, “Sloth,” at Theatre on the Square. The show centers on Harve, a widower and retired firefighter, who is left alone as the caretaker of the estate his granddaughter inherited when his daughter died. There’s a firebug in the neighborhood burning houses down. The stable-boy caring for Harve’s horses is getting restless. With a case to solve and an estate to protect, Harve has some options.

For real action to get the bloody pumping, the Dockyard Derby Dames will have a roller derby bout at Pierce College-Fort Steilacoom Saturday. And while you are out that way, Lakewood Playhouse is staging, “A Lion in Winter,” a period piece about all things English.

Now shower off before the sweat clogs your pores and you start to stink – you have work to do.
