Weekend Preview: travel music

Good things happen all of a sudden sometimes. Other times, the planning and organization rule the day. Thus is the story of both cases.

Jazzbones had a hole in the calendar a while back and filled it with a killer group that will tear it up when it takes to the stage tomorrow night.

Coming off its new album release last month, Delhi 2 Dublin is on tap for some fun. This electronic Celtic Breakbeat crew from Vancouver, offers a twist on music that can’t stop feet from tapping and hips from swaying.

Let’s face it, most artists are poor. They struggle for their passion, so bargains are always good. Those penny pinchers will be in play this weekend at Tacoma Art Place, 1116 S. 11th St. Planning to come early could mean great stuff at cheap prices. Coming late could mean only scraps are left.

John Patrick Shanley’s “Doubt” is entering its final weekend today at the City of Destiny’s newest theater. The show about a nun with a hunch and a priest with a heart under investigation is what good theater is all about.

The show runs today to Saturday at 8 p.m. and on Sunday at 2 p.m. at the renovated Mecca Building, 755 Broadway.

Tacoma Little Theatre’s production of George Bernard Shaw’s classic comedy, “Major Barbara” is continuing its run. The story centers on Barbara, a major in the Salvation Army, who has issues with her power-starved father, who just happens to be an arms manufacturer. Shaw’s ideas and insights about the world of humanity are as timely and humorous as they were when he wrote them 100 years ago.

Tacoma Little Theatre is located at 210 N. I St. The show runs Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. through June 13.

For another classic, and a bit of a drive, Lakewood Playhouse is staging John Steinbeck’s “The Grapes of Wrath.” This show about the Dust Bowl is just as current as the headlines as it deals with the drive of people to better themselves. The show runs at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and at 2 p.m. on Sundays through June 20. which is a week later than first scheduled because audiences are filling out the seats for this show.
