Weekend Recap for Dec 14th, 2009
This weekend was all about health … well sort of, but I had to go out of town for it.
I got the shoes dusted off for the Christmas 5K run in Kent on Saturday and then again for the Jingle Bell Dash in Seattle on Sunday. Both runs were cold and fun and energetic. The next run will be local, with the Santa Runs Tacoma on Saturday around the Thea Foss Waterway. This 5K, 10K and 1K children’s run will mean joggers in red hats and cross trainers pounding around the waterfront. Imagine a parade of Santas, but just a bit faster.
Nothing says “fun run” like a brisk morning jog followed by the Ultimate Grilled Cheese at Paddy Coynes> ) or the breakfast pizza at the Hub. I hit both this weekend.
On the entertainment front, I squeezed in a staging of “A Tuna Christmas,” the second installment of the antics of the less-than-cultured residents of Tuna, Texas. The show is a great partnership between Tacoma Little Theatre and Lakewood Playhouse. TLT’s Scott Campbell and Lakewood’s Marcus Walker bring a whole mess of funny in this show as they march through the parade of some two dozen characters from radio broadcasters to animal rights activists to bratty teen-agers.
Gosh the show is funny. The quick changes in costumes and characters is brilliantly timed and brilliantly delivered as Christmas nears in the fictional Texas town.
The show runs at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are $16 to $24. The theater is located at 210 N. I St.

Did you know that you will even be able to help your community through the Santa Runs Tacoma on Saturday?! The race directors have secured a spot on Santa’s ‘nice’ list by offering an opportunity to support some local non-profit organizations. Lindquist Dental Clinic for Children is collecting cash donations for the “All I Want for Christmas is my Two Front Teeth” campaign to help uninsured children receive much-needed dental care. The race directors have set up an option on their registration site to allow a donation as an add-on with race registration, or just a simple way to donate right to the cause without having to run 3.1 miles in the rain…I mean, not that that doesn’t sound fun! I’ll be there, after all…
