Weekend Recap: Free flix, hole in one
My calendar was packed with kid-friendly fun this extended weekend, and most of those “to dos” involved staying indoors since the forecast called for clouds and rain. While there were a few bands of sun, I opted to keep to the schedule as planned. I’m German that way.
The family hit of the weekend was likely the Free Family Flix at the Grand Cinema on Saturday. This Click! Cable TV sponsored gig was “The Secrets of NIMH,” the classic animation story about intelligent rats and mice finding their way in the world now that they know that what they were eating was trash. The show is a series offered every third Saturday of the month. The next show is “Wallace and Grommit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit,” the claymation British number about a clever dog and his less-than-clever owner who is out to solve a mystery about missing vegetables in the neighborhood.
A few folks around the water hole then laughed at me when I opted to take the chillons to putt putt golf at Tower Lanes for Martin Luther King Jr. Day… I then told them about his lesser known “I have a green” speech and that showed them.
The 18-hole course comes with water hazards, a few water falls and colored balls. What else could a tweenie and a toddler ask for from life for $4 that doesn’t involve getting out of their jammies? I say nothing.
While the city had a host of museums to see and art to oogle, a good weekend of movies and golf is sometimes in order. Such is life in the City of Destiny.
