Weekend Review: boom, blood, foam
So much for legality.
The firing off of personal fireworks didn’t seem to slow around Tacoma even though their use has been illegal for years. Cracks and bangs filled neighborhoods well into the night even as the city’s Freedom Fair took over the waterfront with its own boom-boom show. The annual fair along Commencement Bay included the usual vendors, music, patriotic hoop-lah.
But the weekend might be remembered for other events. Tacoma’s Metal Prom at Hell’s Kitchen on Friday was one for the books. The gig was anchored by DJ Melodica on the discs while C.F.A., Sleeper Cell, Yuck Fou (formerly Thrash Forward) and the Renagade Calendar Girls made appearances. There was blood wrestling to honor the movie “Carrie,” and just plan heavy metal fun.
Another party of note was “Foam Fest” at Jazzbones on Sunday. Yeah, a rave-like foam party with all the bubble goodness such a party brings. The show had DJ Pedro on the deck with Kasey Jones, Ruby Behlen, Krys Pledger and Your Girl on the list. A hot summer night, ladies and gents in beach attire and foam with booze pouring like rain. Enough said.
And now the work week begins.
