Weekend Review: edible barometer

Longevity brings perspective. Such is the case when considering the culinary variety in Tacoma.

I have bar-hopped around Tacoma for too many years to count and have seen joints open, close and open again with new scenes, new music, new looks and new menus. They are an economic barometer of sorts in that regard.

And I have to say that if the slate of menu items to be found around the City of Destiny is any indication, all seems well. Disappearing are the days of packaged food, frozen chicken strips and microwave jalapeno poppers.

The Gruv Lounge has S’mores the chef makes from scratch for crying out loud. He makes his own chocolate, marshmellows and graham crackers.

Oh, and the country fried bacon is a heart attack of goodness on a plate. DOA, formerly known as SAX, also offers grubbin’ eats.

So that is what I did this weekend: I ate. I also ate. I ate, as well. And I sampled a beer here and there, most notably the vanilla porter at the Harmon Tap Room.

I finished off my gluttonous adventure with coffee and snacks at Hello Cupcake.

On Sunday, there was rest – or food coma.

A fresh smore sounds great, but don’t knock a good Jalapeno Popper…especially when it is wrapped in bacon at The Matador!
    Cheers!
