Weekend Review: field trippin'

President’s Day weekend came and went with a mix of weather and a barrage of things to do. Some are done, while others continue. Consider yourself lucky that you have another chance.

Tops on the list is the special run at Broadway Center for the Performing Arts and Lakewood Playhouse of a joint production of “My Name is Asher Lev”, which continues its show with a move from Tacoma to the Lakewood stage. The show is directed by Lakewood’s Marcus Walker and tells the tale of a young gifted artist torn between his Orthodox Jewish faith and his passion to paint the truth. The show plays at Lakewood Playhouse through March 20.

Mall ratting has always been a non-productive hobby for teen-agers of all sorts, and I found myself doing said activity with my “tween” and her friend as we bought earings and ate pretzels. I got “old fart stuff” and just browsed for things that were made back when MTV showed videos and tweeting was left for the birds.

Then came Tacoma Cult Film Club night at the Acme Grub Cage. The next one up is March 13, for “Chicks Who Kick Ass” movies
