Weekend Review: good drinks and good show

Wow… Hail. There was my car after a day of sun.

That can’t be possible. But there it was. An ice chunk that would make any Hilltop resident proud.

Speaking of the Hilltop, one of its landmark bars is celebrating a birthday today, The 1022 South Lounge, the place to go for great old-school drinks and conversation is marking one year in operation tonight with drink specials and good times.

Another place to go this week is production of HMS Pinafore at Lakewood Playhouse. What a great show. The Gilbert and Sullivan operetta centers on the troubles of two couples who find themselves in love well outside of their social class.
Anchoring the cast is Katie Skovholt, the cute-as-a-button Buttercup with a great voice to match, and Lauren Nance as Josephine. On the guy side, there is Adam Shelton and veteran actor Richard Frias as Sir Joseph Porter.

Toss in some quick wit lyrics and great voices to deliver them and you get the idea.
The show runs Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m.
