Weekend Review: Revenger of music
The weekend was filled with music of all sorts… all fun stuff.
Tops on the list was a gig by the Tacoma-based group, The Revengers, at O’Malley’s. The group has a mix of high-energy rock with a shot of social rap and thunder base playing. Dale Coleman brought the rap. Mason Hargrove brought the guitar riffs. Eric Quinn brought the energy. Dustin Iacobazzi Riecan brought the ax thunder.
The band plays regularly around Tacoma these days and brings a special depth to the local music scene that so many other “rock bands” don’t.
That is not to say that cover bands can’t be artistic and fun or fail to bring their own musical style to the local scene. Such is the case with another band on the list this weekend. The Afrodisiacs played the Swiss and brought their “cover band” disco parody funness to the crowd. Hips were moving and heads were swaying as the spoof band ran through the catalog of all things funk and disco. The band’s alter ego, the Spazmatics, will run through its techno list at the Swiss on Friday, making for another great night of dancing and nostalgic fun.
