Weekend Review: trudging on
Holy monkeys I was sick this weekend. I felt like I was hit by a truck of badgers and saw dust. I didn’t, therefore, get to all the fun I had on my schedule, but it was a fun weekend nonetheless.
Tacoma Symphony Orchestra’s season opener with guitarist Ana Vidovic was amazing. That woman can play that six stringer like few in the world could ever imagine. The orchestra also performed Aaron Copland’s Billy the Kid and George Gershwin’s An American in Paris. The opener gave a great sign for the season to come.
The Tacoma Youth Chorus family concert last weekend was less fun. Sure, my daughter is in the group and the music wasn’t bad. It just lacked the punch of season’s gone by. The full concert at Pacific Lutheran University is still months away, so there is still time to get notes where they should be, but the verdict is out on if that can happen. The concert Saturday lacked the sense of formality and professional presentation that was commonplace in previous years. Sure, it was a “family concert,” but a concert is a concert.
But the kids seemed to have fun, and that counts for something.
