Weekend Roundup: Feeling the Love Tacoma style

One cool thing about Tacoma is the local pride residents have for the City of Destiny. Sure, it might be gritty and smelly and old school at times, but that just means it has character, sort of like that weird, gruff uncle who always visits uninvited this time of year just to “stay a few days.”

A visible sign of that local pride was found last night at the Love Tacoma event at Enoteca, a wine bar adjacent to the Tacoma Wine Merchant in the Stadium District. Not only was the place packed with local love and yummy wine but the wonderful smell of all things gourmet cheese filled the air as well.

The local pride group holds informal monthly gathering around the city’s up-and-coming hot spots, so each party is as different as the city itself. The next event is set for Dec. 29, when the group will gather at the Goldfish Tavern along Ruston’s strip of Pearl and down a few pints before doing the whole Zoolights thing across the street.

While that event is a few weeks away, one gig to watch this weekend is “Tuna Christmas” at Tacoma Little Theatre>. This collaboration with Lakewood Playhouse is the second installment of the three part “Tuna” series that centers on a small radio station in the fictional town of Tuna, Texas. The comedy gets big as the parade of goofy characters walk through the stage courtesy of just two actors, Marcus Walker from Lakewood Playhouse and Scott Campbell from TLT.

The show starts tonight and runs weekends through Dec. 20.

For something with a bit more soul, Tab Benoit will be playing a set at Jazzbones. The show starts at 8 p.m and costs $20.
