Welcome to the Year of the Rat!

A few of the folks in the Suite went out this morning to look for gifts from the Monkeyshines crew. It was a good morning. First, because balls were found. Second, because there were people out. There were people on nearly every block in the way-too-early-to-be-up hours. It was great!

As a side note – The wind and rain that hit our area last night seems to have done tremendous damage to the latest Beautiful Angle offering that celebrates the Year of the Rat. We found several posters shredded, blown against fences, and floating in gutters. We saved what we could, but it wasn’t pretty.

Yeah, I found a severely abused poster on Sixth Ave while walking to work. Came up empty on the glass balls, guess waiting until daylight was waiting too long…

Rat balls, baby! That’s what I’m talking about!

And don’t think of the posters as destroyed. Think of them as claimed by God.

About 5 years ago I was visiting the Sun Yat Sen gardens in Vancouver BC. They had a plaque of some kind that displayed all the chinese astrological symbols with horoscopes. My horoscope simply stated: “Beware of Rat.” This year is going to suck balls.

I prefer to think of these beautiful balls (and the Beautiful Angle posters) as a magical gift to the city rather than a project. The fact that artists and citizens are willing to do this without getting credit or financial gain is what makes Tacoma amazing. I’m ecstatic at having found a ball and a poster. Thanks Monkeyshiners for bringing joy to all of Tacoma today!

Project. Gift — it is indeed great whatever you call it. I think in my post I mentioned it as a gift and it certainly is. Makes living here just that much richer and fascinating.

Thanks Monkeyshiners and Kevin… I was able to find one near UW Tacoma next to the flag pole – Picture #20

Whilst retrieving our news paper this morning we happened upon a delightful glass ornament. We buzzed with excitement and joy! Thank you for thinking of us. We will treasure our gift always. ~The Swiss Tavern Family

While walking from my car into work today I found a gift nestled below a birch tree in a flowerbed in front of the the County-City Building. I cannot express to you how much joy this small treasure brings. I was quite the envy of my co-workers. Some had heard of monkeyshines, some not. No one had known someone who had found one. I felt quite special. The orb is a lovely pink with just a hint of texture, like splinters under its glass skin. Thank you to all of the mysterious souls who participate in making this very cool, very wonderful event happen.

Funny story about these. I work for security at the University of Puget Sound, and last night we spotted some people wandering around the campus looking for these. It seemed sort of suspicious, since this was 3:00 in the morning. I suppose their story was legitimate, after all.

Dangit! I always remember it’s Monkeyshine too late. I have no balls.
