Welcoming Sophie to Team Exit133

I went to the Pierce County Humane Society this last Saturday to look for a cat. I met several cats and collected lots of cat hair (on my jacket). I left two hours later with Sophie. She’s 9 years old and sweet as could be. To all the folks at the Humane Society, thank you.

This is Sophie! Baci has a new friend.

By the way – there are still lots of great cats left to be adopted.

Welcome Sophie! You’ll like your new home. Derek’s a soft touch and tends to drop scraps of food when he cooks. Just don’t touch his wine glass and you’ll do fine.

    Derek,
Congratulations on the new cat. I have a 9 year old cat,Oreo, She wasn’t so sure she was ready to move from Calif. to Tacoma, but she seems to have adjusted.
I’ll see you tomorrow nite. Made it down to Target to buy a Bocce set. So I am ready for a second try.

The HS is great! And it’s kitten season, so there are lots of bouncy kits who need forever homes. And if you don’t have the energy to deal with hyperactive kittens who will climb everywhere and get underfoot, an older one like Sophie might be just the thing.

You can also sign up to be a foster parent for underage kittens, either with or without a mom. They get tons of tiny kittens in and don’t have enough space, so foster parents provide a great service. You socialize them, play with them and clean up after them until they are old enough to be fixed. (about 2 months or 2 pounds) So rewarding, even if your friends do ask why your ankles and wrists are covered with tiny scratches!

I have a group of 4 HS foster kittens right now who are ready for permanent homes- 3 b/w, one tabby. Very cute. If you are thinking about going to the HS for a kitten, shoot me an email and maybe it’s the perfect match. All HS regulations/prices apply, of course!

Their prices are a deal- includes spay/neuter, all vaccinations, wellness exam and microchip. Prices range depending on age- check out their website.

    Derek,

Your cat looks like a golden retriever.

    Beautiful dog.

Good for you for taking home an older girl. What’s her story? Any idea how she ended up at the shelter at age 9?

Seriously? She’s big. I get that. But a dog?

Any idea how she ended up at the shelter at age 9?

The story on the clipboard said that she had been with one family for 7.5 years and that they were moving. She’s been extremely well trained – better than any other cat dog I’ve owned.

Ah – Finally, someone can help Baci learn some good manners!!!!

    Congrats D.

Where can you walk Sophie on a sunny sunday afternoon and then sit outside and enjoy a drink while looking at Puget Sound? (In Tacoma I mean)

We walked our dog Sunday along Ruston way and did not know if there were any spots like that available.

    Anyone know?

Cafe Divino (a block up from the water on 30th) often has dogs with owners sitting at the sidewalk tables. Can’t see much of the water from there, but it has a great view of the Spar :)
