What Should We Call It?
The School Board will vote tonight on a name for the new middle school being built in East Tacoma. The new school will absorb students from both Gault and McIlvaigh. Suggestions have ranged from “McGault” to “Barack Obama”, but the list of to be considered names is decidedly more predictable. The short list, from committees that included community members, is First Creek Middle School, East Side Academy Middle School, Jane Russell Middle School, Cesar Chavez Middle School and Salish Middle School.
Any thoughts?

FAR EAST JUNIOR HIGH
The name brings to mind Tacoma’s great heritage of fine junior high schools; and the Far East part interlaces the geo-political designation of Tacoma and its Pacific Rim brethren.
