White Knuckle Weather

The weather around here tends to be a bit predictable.  Gray and 40 something for six months.  Gray and 50 something for a few months.  Partly cloudy and 60 something for a few months.  Gorgeous in September.  Then, every once in a while, we have days like today.  It’s not quite up to the the standards of the ‘inaugural day storm’ of 1993, but it still seems notable.  Tree limbs were down in our alley.  It’s cold.  There was ice on I-705.  Then there was the wind.  My car is about as aerodynamic as an Indian Elephant and it was all over the road when the 30 to 40 mph gusts hit me broadside.  It was exciting.  Twenty five miles of exciting.

On the plus side, I saw Mt. Baker on my commute this morning.  This happens only a handful of times a year.  And, at home, the crocuses are coming up.  It’s one of the coldest days of the year and bulbs are appearing.  A sure sign of Spring?
