Winthrop Back Off Market - A.F. Evans Still Here
Just when you thought things were looking up, A.F. Evans has entered into a new purchase agreement for the Winthrop and has 60 days to complete it. The city is looking to pitch in $1 million to help with a resolution at the September 12th City Council meeting. If you have an opinion, “make it heard”:http://cityoftacoma.org/Page.aspx?nid=54!
Update: The City Council Meeting is Tuesday. Be there if you can. The key question to us is this: Why should the city support a Winthrop proposal that isn’t a good match for the city? There are other ideas coming forward that more closely match where we should be going. We have positive momentum. Why rush?

Evans property in Seattle that is crime ridden and poorly managed. How confident are we that they’ll do better in Tacoma? Tell your city council person what you think.

Nothing creates a vibrant downtown like government offices, the big new tenants in 2010 are the attorney general’s office on the ground floor at Pacific Plaza and the Social Security office at Foremost. Great. Dynamic and exciting.

Seattle takes Russel and 900 jobs from Tacoma.
In return, Tacoma takes 50 SSA jobs from Seattle.
Net is -850.
Not so hot, but admittedly better than nothing and an empty building.
