Work Under Way On New Movie Theater at Point Ruston

Work has begun in earnest on the new theater planned for Point Ruston. A post yesterday on the Point Ruston Facebook page shared their excitement for the project, which now has the first footings poured.
Last Friday, the Point Ruston Construction Team poured the first footings for the Century Theatre Building!

Before too long, we'll be watching the latest movies in Tacoma's newest and state-of-the-art movie theater!
This development comes as the Point Ruston developers await a decision on their request for an amendment to Tacoma's Comprehensive Plan that would designate the Point Ruston area as Tacoma's newest mixed-use center. If you've got opinions on that, the public hearing on proposed amendments to the Comprehensive Plan is scheduled for March 19.
The Point Ruston blog post includes a series of pictures of the work on the new Century Theater foundation - step by step. It doesn't look like much just yet, but with momentum gathering, and spring weather coming, we're guessing you can expect to see the rest of the building going up in very short order. The last plans we saw for the project included nearly 140 residential units in the theater building. According to what we heard late last year, the theater project will be followed by a parking garage/retail development.
Last we heard the theater was expected to open next spring, which gives us another year to wait for those latest movies. Meanwhile, we'll have to settle for watching potential develop into reality in Tacoma's newest neighborhood.
