You Could Own an Iconic Lincoln District Lantern

You could soon have the opportunity to own an iconic piece of Tacoma's Lincoln District, and the proceeds from the sale could go to support future improvements in the neighborhood.

Earlier this year the City of Tacoma removed the two decade-old red lantern street light fixtures, replacing them with more energy efficient LED lights.

The old lights were surplused and this week the Daily Index reports that local nonprofit Safe Streets, in partnership with an ad hoc steering committee from the Lincoln Business District, has claimed them.

Safe Streets is considering auctioning them off, and putting the money raised toward neighborhood improvements - although those have yet to be defined. Although they're not technically historic, they've definitely been a part of the neighborhood, and of Tacoma, for a few decades now.

There are a couple dozen of the lantern light fixtures - who wants one?
