You're Invited to a Lu'au This Saturday

This Saturday, April 21, the University of Puget Sound invites you to their 42nd annual Spring Lu’au. If you’re not lucky enough to be heading for Hawaii this weekend, this might just be the next best thing.

For decades now UPS has counted a large number of Hawaiian and South Pacific students among its student body, and those students have shared their culture with the University and Tacoma. The University’s Hui O Hawai’i club’s annual lu’au offers Polynesian food and entertainment to students, families, and the public, and has become one of the biggest public celebrations of Pacific Island culture in Washington.

In true islander hospitality style, Hui O Hawai’i students are eager once again to welcome the public to this year’s celebration. The show will feature traditional costumes and about a dozen dances from cultures including Hawaiian, Tahitian, Samoan, and Maori, with music provided by the band Na Leo O Hawai’i. The dinner will give guests a taste of the islands will include kalua pig, huli huli chicken, lomi lomi salmon, macaroni salad, poi, chicken long rice, haupia, pineapple, and a vegan dish pineapple stir fry. Mmm, our mouths are watering just writing this.
