6-month ramp closure in Tacoma begins December 1

Construction crews will close the northbound State Route 7 on-ramp to southbound Interstate 5 in Tacoma at 10 p.m. Monday, Dec. 1. The ramp closure will be in place around the clock until May. Drivers will follow a signed detour. The long-term ramp closure will allow crews to continue progress on the I-5 - M Street to Portland Avenue – HOV project. Crews will use the ramp as a construction zone to build supports for a new bridge and install additional drainage.

Continued ramp closures 
The southbound Interstate 5 exit to State Route 7 and the A Street on-ramp to northbound Interstate 705/Interstate 5 both remain closed around the clock. 

During the week of Dec. 1, additional overnight lane and ramp closures will also occur as crews create protected work areas. 

Lane closures between M Street and Portland Avenue 
Beginning at 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, Dec. 1-4, crews will close up to two lanes of southbound I-5. All lanes will reopen at 6 a.m. each following morning. 

From 11 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5 through 7 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, crews will close the left lane of northbound I-5. 

Beginning at 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 6-7, two lanes of southbound I-5 will close. The lanes will reopen at 6 a.m. each following day.

Monday, Dec. 1 
Northbound I-5 exit to SR 7 will close from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. the following day. 
Southbound I-705 on-ramp to northbound I-5 will close from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. the following day. 

Tuesday, Dec. 2 
Northbound I-5 exit to SR 7 will close from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. the following day. 

Southbound I-705 on-ramp to northbound I-5 will close from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. the following day.

Wednesday, Dec. 3 
Southbound I-705 on-ramp to northbound I-5 will close from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. the following day. 
Southbound I-5 exit to City Center will close at 10 p.m. and reopen at 6 a.m. the following morning. 

Thursday, Dec. 4 
Pacific Avenue on-ramp to southbound I-5 will close at 10 p.m. The ramp will reopen at 6 a.m. the following morning. 
City Center on-ramp to southbound I-5 will close from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning. 

During the ramp closures, drivers will follow a signed detour. 

City of Tacoma streets 

Monday, Dec. 1 
At 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. the following morning, crews will close the eastbound lane of Wiley Avenue between L and D streets. Eastbound drivers will be directed through the center turn lane. 

Tuesday, Dec. 2 
At 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. the following morning, crews will close the eastbound lane of Wiley Avenue between L and D streets. Eastbound drivers will be directed through the center turn lane. 

From 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning, the left lane of East 27th street near L street will close.
