ADA Parking Improvements Scheduled for March - May 2015

The City of Tacoma’s Public Works Department is starting ADA parking and sidewalk improvements at four City-owned facilities. The work will start in March and extend through May as part of the City’s ADA Self-Evaluation and Transition Plan. Locations include:

  • Pantages Theater (901 Broadway.)
  • Rialto Theater (310 S. 9th St.)
  • People's Community Center (1602 S.Martin Luther King Jr. Way)
  • Swasey Library (7001 6th Ave.)

“I’m happy to see that the City is moving towards being more accessible to all residents,” said Council Member Lauren Walker.

The internal areas of these facilities have already been upgraded to current ADA standards. External upgrades represent the next phase of improvements. Each location, with the exception of the Rialto Theater, requires significant concrete and asphalt removal and replacement to meet ADA required grades. To date, there have been 25 internal building upgrades and seven external building upgrades as part of the ADA Self-Evaluation and Transition Plan.
