Alisa Regala O'Hanlon to run for Tacoma School Board Position 4

Tacoma native and community advocate Alisa Regala O'Hanlon is running for Tacoma School Board Position 4, the seat currently held by Kurt Miller. Miller will not be seeking re-election this fall.

“A number of innovations in Tacoma Schools are becoming nationally recognized. I see the opportunity for Tacoma Schools to be a model of success, but key to this success is our community and governmental partnerships,” said Regala O'Hanlon.

Over the last three years, she has cultivated a coalition between the City of Tacoma, Metro Parks, Tacoma Public Schools, and the Tacoma Housing Authority to bring a full service community center to Tacoma's Eastside. "Advancing the vision of neighbors and students has been one of my proudest, most enjoyable achievements," Regala O'Hanlon said. "That experience was one of the catalysts for me deciding to run for school board."

Regala O'Hanlon's ability to cultivate community involvement and build relationships have earned her the endorsement of State Rep. Laurie Jenkins, retired State Rep. Dennis Flannigan, Tacoma City Council members Ryan Mello, Marty Campbell, Lauren Walker and Robert Thoms, as well as community activists Lua Pritchard with the Asia Pacific Cultural Center and Shalisa Hayes with the Billy Ray Shirley Foundation and Mothers of Magnitude.

Regala O'Hanlon currently works for the City of Tacoma, focusing on federal and tribal government relations, and has more than two decades of experience as a community organizer and government relations professional. She attended McCarver Elementary School, Jason Lee Middle School and was a fourth-generation Stadium High School graduate. In addition to her lifetime of involvement in Tacoma's schools as a student, parent, volunteer, and mentor, Regala O'Hanlon has served on the boards of the YWCA and Communities in Schools – Tacoma.

Regala O'Hanlon and her husband, Craig O'Hanlon, have two daughters – one currently enrolled in Tacoma schools, and one who has graduated.
