Applications for 2014 Annual Amendment Due Aug. 1
The Planning Commission is accepting applications for proposed amendments to the City of Tacoma Comprehensive Plan and Land Use Regulatory Code. Applications must be received by Thursday, Aug. 1, 2013.
The Comprehensive Plan is the City’s official policy statement about its vision for growth and development. It guides the City’s Land Use Regulatory Code; identifies goals, policies and strategies; and addresses important issues such as land use, neighborhoods, housing, transportation, cultural resources, recreation and open space, capital facilities, downtown and the environment. This then informs the Land Use Regulatory Code on zoning, subdivisions, shorelines, the environment, critical habitat areas and historic preservation.
To maintain effectiveness as a long-range guidance document, City staff update the Comprehensive Plan infrequently. However, this Annual Amendment process allows any individual, organization, corporation, partnership, or other entity to propose mid-stream corrections, changes, additions or updates. The fee to propose an amendment is $1,400. The City uses the fee to offset some of the cost for conducting proposals analyses.
