Author Visiting Tacoma for DOTG Friday Forum Series

Tacoma, Wash. – Author and urban designer Darrin Nordahl will join Downtown On the Go at UW Tacoma for a discussion on his book Making Transit Fun! How to Entice Motorists From Their Cars (and onto their feet, a bike, or bus). The Friday Forum event is free and open to the public on Feb. 26, 2016 from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m.

Nordahl is known for the “Fun Factor”, a term he created to talk about customer-first transit, and shares ideas from around the world on the bus “Extreme Makeover” and the reasons we choose to take transit. He’ll bring ideas and we’ll discuss how subtle changes can entice more people to walk, bike, or ride transit over driving alone.

UW Tacoma student, Alecia Kuhl says, “Darrin Nordahl offers a unique perspective on how communities can utilize creative and innovative methods to improve biking, walking, and transit.  I especially love the use of ‘The Fun Factor’, in designing bus stops that make us all feel like kids again.  Who wouldn't want swings, parks, and ‘fruit-shaped’ transit shelters all throughout their community?”

People who have not read the book are encouraged to come for the discussion, but the book is available online or at Downtown On the Go.

This forum is sponsored by UW Tacoma and Pierce Transit.

The forum at UW Tacoma (Joy 117) is accessible by Pierce Transit routes 1, 41, 53, 400, 500, and 501 and the Free Tacoma Link. On-street bike parking is available. For details and to RSVP visit the Facebook event.

Downtown On the Go’s Friday Forums sponsored by HNTB, GeoEngineers, AHBL, KPG, and VIA, are a chance to learn about transportation issues and opportunities in Tacoma, discuss real challenges facing downtown commuters and residents, and hear about new ideas in the transportation world.
