Bear Sighted in North Tacoma and Point Defiance Park

To report a bear call 911

There have been reports of a black bear in and around North Tacoma and Point Defiance Park. Fish and Wildlife and Animal Control are aware of it and are monitoring the situation closely.  

Reports are that it is a younger animal and it has not been aggressive. 

North End residents and visitors to Point Defiance Park are advised not to engage with the animal and are asked to not leave anything out that might encourage it to stay around the area such as pet food and garbage.

Black bears are typically shy animals that would rather not engage with humans. Do not attempt to feed any wild animals, doing so will cause them to habituate to humans.
