Bike to Work Week celebrates cyclists

Tacoma, Wash. – Downtown On the Go’s Fall Bike to Work Week, the first of its kind in Tacoma, began today and runs through Friday, Sept. 27, 2013. The campaign encourages cycling to work in downtown Tacoma, which keeps employees happy and healthy, frees up parking spaces for visitors and clients, and improves our environment. Cycling to work is a great way to incorporate exercise into daily routines and save money on gas.

Every Bike to Work Week participant receives a Group Health Ouch Pouch and a pair of new DOTG neon sunglasses!

Commuters are invited to track commute trips at Piercetrips.com or using Strava or RunKeeper apps and each ride during the week gets you an entry into the drawings for $50 gift certificates to downtown restaurants. The week will include daily prize drawings on Facebook and Twitter, a free cup of coffee on Monday, a ride with city council, opportunities to meet other cyclists, and a commuter meet-up and pub crawl on Friday.

Downtown On the Go provides cycling and commute resources to help downtown commuters utilize their options. DOTG’s Bike Buddy program supports new commuters in finding routes and provides someone to ride with. DOTG offers free Pierce County bike maps and sells helmets for $10 to ensure Tacoma riders are safe and informed.

Bike to Work Week is sponsored by GeoEngineers.
