Humane Society celebrates 125 years of “Making Happy Happen” at Tacoma Rainier’s first annual K-9 Innings
Tacoma, WA – June 18, 2013: It has been 125 years since the Humane Society for Tacoma Pierce County opened its doors to our community’s furriest members. In celebration of this tremendous feat, the Humane Society has teamed up with the Tacoma Rainiers for the first annual K-9 Innings on Sunday, June 23rd at 1:30 PM at Cheney Stadium as the team takes on the Fresno Grizzlies. This event invites Fido and family to partake in pet-themed promotions, animal photos, a special pooch-friendly area all while enjoying a great game of Rainiers baseball.
The goal of the event is to raise awareness of the Humane Society’s work to re-home and reunite pets with their forever families. Since the beginning of 2013 alone, the Humane Society has helped nearly 1,800 pets find their forever homes and reunited nearly 600 lost pets with their owners.
The theme for this year’s first annual K-9 Innings centers around the Humane Society of Tacoma Pierce County’s latest awareness campaign called “Make Happy Happen.” Featuring local success stories of animals adopted through the Humane Society, the advertisements focus on the emotional rewards in store for both man and pet.
Additionally, K-9 Innings will be a chance for the community to learn about the Humane Society’s upcoming “Dog-A-Thon” fundraiser. Held on Saturday, July 20th at Fort Steilacoom Park, “Dog-A-Thon” is Washington State’s largest dog walk featuring more than 1,000 animal advocates and their four-legged friends. Last year’s event raised more than $200,000 for homeless animals.
Founded in 1888 by a handful of concerned citizens, The Humane Society for Tacoma & Pierce County has grown into the state’s largest animal welfare agency. We find loving homes for more than 6,000 pets a year, reunite thousands of lost pets with their owners, provide medical care for ill and injured shelter pets, and offer comprehensive low-cost spay-neuter programs. The Humane Society for Tacoma & Pierce County is a local, independent 501(c)3 non-profit which relies on donations to fund its vital programs. The Humane Society for Tacoma & Pierce County is not associated with any government agency, nor affiliated with any national organization.
