Community selects 11 Wonders of Tacoma
Murray Morgan Bridge Week Feb. 11-15

It’s officially Murray Morgan Bridge Week in Tacoma. The community will celebrate the newly renovated Murray Morgan Bridge’s 100th anniversary this Friday, Feb. 15.

As part of this weeklong observance, the public was invited to participate in a survey to vote on Tacoma’s 11 Wonders which includes the Murray Morgan Bridge and honors its location on 11th Street.

The Wonders included in the survey were submitted by local leaders such as Former Tacoma Mayor Bill Baarsma, David Fisher from the Broadway Center, Judi Hyman from the Downtown Merchants Group and David Zeeck, from the News Tribune.

The list was compiled and the community has spoken.  The final 11 Wonders are:
1.    Point Defiance Park & Zoo
2.    Union Station
3.    Ruston Way Waterfront
4.    Tacoma Narrows Bridge
5.    Views of Mt. Rainier
6.    Stadium High School
7.    Wright Park
8.    Museum of Glass
9.    Fort Nisqually
10.  Octopus under the Tacoma Narrows Bridge
11.  Murray Morgan Bridge

The City invites you to participate in the following events scheduled this week:

Murray Morgan Bridge Week, Feb. 11-15
Tacoma Mayor Marilyn Strickland has declared Feb. 11-15 as Murray Morgan Bridge Week. Local businesses are celebrating by offering discounts and specials to customers. For more information, visit www.tacomachamber.org/content/murray-morgan-bridge-week.

Feb. 14 – Light the Bridge 5K Run/Walk, 6 p.m.
A fun run/walk will be held through downtown Tacoma and over the Murray Morgan Bridge. Participants are asked to wear head lamps or carry flashlights or glow sticks. Feb. 15 – Rededication Ceremony, 10 a.m.
The week will culminate with the official Bridge christening complete with a classic car procession, remarks from key city leaders and more. The event will be held at the approach to the bridge near the intersection of 11th & A Street. All are welcome to attend. www.cityoftacoma.org/MMB100
