Community and Technical College Student Rally

The students of the Community and Technical Colleges (CTC) have organized, and now have a group that represents the roughly 500,000 CTC students in this state. The Washington Community and Technical College Student Association (WACTCSA) strives to provide a unified voice for students needs and concerns.

On Friday, February 1st leaders of WACTCSA will be present along with several hundred students for the 2013 Community and Technical College Student Rally at the State Capitol in Olympia to share our concerns with the governor and legislators.

The rally, which runs from 12-1pm in the Rotunda, features guest speakers including Representative’s Larry Seaquist, Larry Haler, and Chris Reykdall; as well as Highline Community College Trustee Dan Altmayer, North Seattle Community College President Mark Mitsui, and Lower Columbia Community College President Chris Bailey.

Key pieces in WACTCSA’s legislative agenda include “Redefining Basic Education,” which asks state lawmakers to change the definition of basic education to include an associates degree; and “Regulation of Data Reporting Standards” which would require for-profit institutions to report the same data as non-profit institutions that receive the same taxpayer dollars.
