Construction in the Tacoma area

Drivers who travel Interstate 5 in Tacoma are encouraged to prepare for night construction and possible delays. Ramp and lane closures are necessary during construction of the I-5 - M Street to Portland Avenue – HOV project. 

Signed detours will be provided during ramp closures. 

Ramp closures 
Saturday, Jan. 31
Portland Avenue on-ramp to southbound I-5 and the southbound SR 167 exit to southbound I-5 will close from 12:01 a.m. to 6 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 31. 

Monday through Wednesday, Feb. 2-4 
Southbound Interstate 705 and southbound State Route 7 on-ramps to northbound I-5 will close from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. each following morning. 

Wednesday, Feb. 4 
Southbound I-705 on-ramp to southbound I-5 will close from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following day. 

Thursday, Feb. 5 
Southbound I-705 on-ramp to southbound I-5 will close from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following day. 

Friday, Feb. 6 
The southbound I-705 and southbound SR 7 on-ramps to northbound I-5 will close from 12:01 a.m. to 4 a.m. 

Saturday, Feb. 7 
The southbound I-705 and southbound SR 7 on-ramps to northbound I-5 will close from 12:01 a.m. to 5 a.m. 

I-5 lane closures between M Street and Portland Avenue 

Monday, Feb. 2 
Single left lane closure on northbound I-5 beginning 9 p.m. At 11 p.m., crews will set up a double-lane closure. All lanes will reopen at 6 a.m. the following morning. 

Tuesday, Feb. 3 and Wednesday, Feb. 4 
Single right lane closure on northbound I-5 beginning at 10 p.m. The lane will reopen at 6 a.m. each following morning. 

Wednesday, Feb. 4 
Single right lane closure on southbound I-5 from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. the following morning. 

Thursday, Feb. 5 
Single right lane closure on southbound I-5 from 9 p.m. until 6 a.m. the following morning. 

Friday, Feb. 6 
Double right lane closure on northbound I-5 from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. the following morning. 


Continued around-the-clock ramp closures:

Southbound Interstate 5 exit to State Route 7 remains closed until mid-February, 2015 for construction of a stormwater retention pond.

Northbound SR 7 on-ramp to southbound I-5 remains closed until spring 2015 for bridge construction.

A-Street on-ramp to northbound I-5/southbound SR 7 remains closed until spring 2016 for bridge construction.
