Drew Ann Henke to run for Tacoma Municipal Court

Drew Ann Henke, Administrative Law Judge and Former Deputy Prosecutor, to run for Tacoma Municipal Court

Drew Ann Henke, whose resume includes 20 years as a Pierce County Deputy Prosecuting Attorney and as a Pro-Tem Municipal Court Judge, announces her candidacy for Tacoma Municipal Court, Pos. 2. She currently serves as an Administrative Law Judge, ruling on child support and medical service issues for families in crisis.

During her tenure in the Prosecutor’s Office, Henke served as Misdemeanor Chief, supervising a team of 35 attorneys, staff, and victims’ advocates.  She also litigated some of the county’s most significant felony cases.  Henke emphasized her breadth of experience as motivating her to serve on Tacoma Municipal Court.  “Having worked as both a prosecutor and defense attorney, I’ve seen cases from both sides, and understand the importance of our judges practicing a fair and balanced approach.”

“I have spent my career working to hold offenders accountable while ensuring justice for every member of society.  I have worked with juveniles, the elderly, domestic violence victims, and other vulnerable populations.  I understand how important an effective, independent justice system is to both victims and the community at large.”

Henke's positive impact extends far beyond the courtroom. As Misdemeanor Chief she helped create its Domestic Violence Unit, a forerunner to the Crystal Judson Family Justice Center. This advocacy center provides safety and comfort to countless domestic violence victims and their families.

Drew and her husband Ed Murphy, a Pierce County Superior Court Judge, live in the West End with their two daughters who attend school in Tacoma.  Drew believes in the value of community service. Through Rotary and her church she helps provides food baskets to needy families. She volunteers at Paint Tacoma Beautiful, Helping Hands, and supports raising funds for the Mary Bridge Sexual Assault Center.
