Drivers to encounter busy week of I-5 night construction

Drivers traveling at night on Interstate 5 through west Pierce County will encounter numerous lane and ramp closures as construction crews continue paving operations and make other highway improvements. 

The ramp closures are scheduled as follows. Although only the ramp closures are listed below, motorists can also expect multiple lane closures in both direction of I-5 in the Lakewood and DuPont areas during the hours of 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. 

Specific dates and times of the closures may vary depending on weather conditions and construction progress. 

Unless otherwise noted, all ramp closures will begin at 10 p.m. on the scheduled date and reopen by 5 a.m. the following morning. 

Monday, Aug. 25

Close Steilacoom-Dupont Road on-ramp to southbound I-5.
Close Thorne Lane on-ramp to southbound I-5.
Close southbound I-5 exit to Thorne Lane.
Close Berkeley Street on-ramp to southbound I-5.
Close southbound I-5 exit to Berkeley Street.

Tuesday, Aug. 26

Close Steilacoom-Dupont Road on-ramp to northbound I-5.
Close Thorne Lane on-ramp to southbound I-5.
Close southbound I-5 exit to Thorne Lane.
Close Berkeley Street on-ramp to southbound I-5.
Close southbound I-5 exit to Berkeley Street.

Wednesday, Aug. 27

Close Center Drive on-ramp to southbound I-5. Once reopened, close Mounts Road on-ramp to southbound I-5.

Thursday, Aug. 28

1 a.m. - 4 a.m. Close Mounts Road on-ramp to southbound I-5.
Close JBLM Main Gate on-ramp to southbound I-5.
