FabLab Delivers 3D Printing Solutions to Tacoma Schools

FabLab LLC is providing 3D Printer sales, training and support solutions to Tacoma area Schools.
Tacoma, WA, October 30th, 2014 -- FabLab, the high-tech workshop and 3D design studio, is providing Tacoma School District with MakerBot 3D Printers. Along with the 3D Printers FabLab will supply training and support.
“We are realizing that 3D Printing is an important tool to engage the students in Career and Technical Education” said Timothy Reher, Engineering & Design Instructor at Stadium High.
“A great way to bring a ‘boring’ drafting class to life is to let the students realize their designs using 3D Printing technology. Teaching children how to think, imagine, create, craft and print in 3D can be very inspiring for them.”
Low cost printers have been around for a couple of years now but with the advent of the 5th Generation MakerBot Printers, they’ve become much easier to set up, easier to use, and easier to maintain than previous models. The 5th Generation line up includes the MakerBot Mini starting at $1,375 all the way up to the Z18 with a giant 12x12x18 inch build envelope.
“We really like the idea of purchasing 3D Printing technology from a local supplier that will help train, inspire and support our teachers” said John Page, Director of CTE at Tacoma Public Schools. “FabLab is a great place to check out if you want to learn about 3D Printing and be inspired by the many creative projects happening there.”
For the past couple of years, FabLab has provided specialized training classes for educators and has provided technical support where necessary to keep machines working properly. FabLab is now in a position to sell and support the machines in addition to training and servicing. FabLab has provided customized 3D Printer training for Bethel Schools, Peninsula Schools, the Sumner School District and Laser training to Franklin Pierce Schools.
FabLab works with inventors, engineers, architects, entrepreneurs and artists, and a big focus on education and making sure students in our local communities are exposed to additive manufacturing, which is being touted as the “Next Industrial Revolution”. In order to reach the students, you first have to educate and support the educators.
