Help shape improvements to Foss Waterway Park and Central Park

Public meeting set to get input on plans for downtown waterfront sites

Metro Parks and the Foss Waterway Development Authority are working together to develop plans for Foss Waterway Park and Central Park, and the public is invited to participate in a public meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, December 15, at Metro Parks headquarters.

Waterway Park is on East D Street at the end of Foss Waterway. A study in 2009 assessed options for converting the existing Berg Scaffolding building or constructing a new facility to serve as a public boathouse on the site.

The boathouse would support human-powered watercraft and could include restrooms, picnic facilities, parking upgrades and more. Central Park is located at the base of the 11th Street Bridge which might include extension of the esplanade, picnic areas and other improvements. Consultant Site Workshop will facilitate a community planning process into February 2016.

The 2014 park bond and Foss Waterway Development Authority are funding the work.

Anyone unable to attend the meeting but who would like to comment may call Project Manager Kristi Evans at (253) 305-1054 or send a message to kristie@tacomaparks.com.
