I-5 concrete panel work continues Aug. 26-29 in Tacoma & Lacey

Crews will finish replacing 21 concrete panels on northbound Interstate 5 in Pierce and Thurston counties during the overnight hours. Closure details are as follows:

Thursday, Aug. 27 - Tacoma
• Northbound I-5 will be reduced to a single lane at milepost 129.5, just south of the 72nd Street interchange, in Tacoma. Lane closures will begin at 8 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 27. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. Friday, Aug. 28. 

Friday, Aug. 28  - Lacey
• Northbound I-5 will be reduced to a single lane at milepost 109.7, just north of the Martin Way on-ramp, in Lacey. Lane closures will begin at 8 p.m., Friday, Aug. 28. All lanes will reopen by 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 29. 

Saturday, Aug. 29 and Sunday, Aug. 30 - Tacoma
• Northbound I-5 will be reduced to a single lane at milepost 129.5, just south of the 72nd Street interchange, in Tacoma. Lane closures will begin at 9 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 29. All lanes will reopen by 10 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 30.
 

 
Weekend closure scheduled for Tacoma-area ramps 

Drivers are advised to plan ahead if their weekend adventures include going into downtown Tacoma from northbound Interstate 5. Beginning Friday, Aug. 28 at 11 p.m., three northbound I-5 exits in the area will close - two for the entire weekend, a third during overnight hours. 

The three affected ramps are scheduled to close as follows: 
1. Northbound I-5 exit to City Center (#133) 
a. Closing around the clock from 11 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28 to 4 a.m. Monday, Aug. 31. 
b. Traffic will be detoured via Portland Avenue. 

2. Northbound I-5 collector/distributor exit to northbound Interstate 705 
a. Closing around the clock from 11 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28 to 4 a.m. Monday, Aug. 31. 
b. Traffic will be detoured via Portland Avenue. 

3. Northbound I-5 collector/distributor exit to southbound State Route 7 
a. Closing during night hours only per the below schedule. Traffic during the closure will be detoured via Portland Avenue. 
i. Friday, Aug. 28 – closing at 11 p.m. 
ii. Saturday, Aug. 29 – reopening at 9 a.m.; closing at 11 p.m. 
iii. Sunday, Aug. 30 – reopening at 10 a.m.; closing at 11 p.m. 
iv. Monday, Aug. 31 – reopening at 4 a.m. 

The southbound I-5 exits to I-705, the City Center and SR 7 will all remain open over the weekend. 


In addition to the above schedule, drivers in the Tacoma area can also expect the following freeway ramp closures:

Thursday, Aug. 27 
• Bay Street on-ramp to northbound SR 167 will close from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. the following morning. 

Friday, Aug. 28 
• Northbound I-5 collector/distributor exit to both SR 7 and northbound I-705 will close from 12:01 a.m. to 4 a.m. 

Saturday, Aug. 29 
• East 28th Street on-ramp to northbound I-5 will close from 12:01 a.m. to 6 a.m.
