I-5 ramp, lane closures coming in Tacoma for HOV construction

Weather permitting, drivers in Tacoma will encounter lane and ramp closures related to construction of future Interstate 5 HOV lanes. 

Work plans could be rescheduled due to poor weather conditions. 

During the week of Oct. 27, nighttime drivers will find overnight double-lane closures on southbound I-5 from M Street to Portland Avenue. All lanes will reopen each following morning. In addition, the following closures are scheduled. 

City of Tacoma 
From 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 27 to 7 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28, drivers will encounter one-way alternating traffic on South 30th Street between South Fawcett Avenue and Pacific Avenue. 

I-5, Interstate 705, State Route 7 
Monday, Oct. 27 and Tuesday, Oct. 28 State Route 7 on-ramp to southbound I-5 will close from 10 p.m. until 6 a.m. both nights. 

  • • Northbound collector/distributor on-ramp to northbound I-5 will close from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. both nights. 
  • • From 11 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29 to 4 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, crews will close the left lane of the northbound I-5 collector/distributor on-ramp to SR 7 and northbound I-705. 

Continued ramp closures: 
The southbound Interstate 5 exit to State Route 7 is closed around the clock until mid-November. The A Street on-ramp to northbound I-705/I- 5 is closed until December. Signed detours are in place for motorists.
