I-5 Tacoma ramp, lane closures for HOV projects

Crew plan multiple ramp closures and two full overnight closures of northbound and southbound Interstate 5. The I-5 detours are necessary so crews can set bridge girders for the new Pacific Avenue overpass.

Drivers are advised to give themselves extra time to reach their destinations. Signed detours will be provided.

Additional information about the weather-related challenges for this project is available at WSDOT’s blog

See full schedule below:

Lane closures

Triple-lane closures will occur on northbound I-5 between Puyallup River Bridge and 54th Avenue during overnight hours Tuesday and Wednesday, March 22-23. Single, double and triple-lane closures will begin at 9 p.m., 11 p.m. and 12:01 a.m., respectively. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. each following morning.

Full overnight closure of I-5

From 1 a.m. to 3:30 a.m. Thursday and Friday, March 24-25, both northbound and southbound I-5 traffic in Tacoma will detoured. Northbound traffic will be detoured via SR 7. Southbound traffic will be detoured via I-705 and SR 7. The detours will allow crews to set girders for the new Pacific Avenue overpass.

Drivers can also anticipate additional weeknight single- and double-lane closures on both northbound and southbound I-5 between L Street and the Port of Tacoma Road.
