Information Sessions on New Port Early Warning System

With grants acquired by the Port of Tacoma through the Department of Homeland Security, the Tacoma Fire Department now stands ready to operate Tacoma’s new Port Early Warning System (PEWS) from its Fire and Emergency Communication Center. 

The PEWS system is designed to provide an area-wide audible alert with emergency instructions to those working outside or in loud industrial environments.

City of Tacoma Emergency Management is providing four public education seminars for community members interested in learning about the PEWS system. The seminars will take place at the Greater Tacoma Convention and Trade Center’s Commerce Room (1500 Broadway) on Jan. 22 from 5 – 6:30 p.m. or 7 – 8:30 p.m. and Jan. 25 from 10 – 11:30 a.m. or 1 – 2:30 p.m.
