Internationally Famous Crystal Sculptor Fred Curtis Visits Museum of Glass August 27-31

Past, Present and Future of Irish Glass the focus of next episode of Hot Shop Live!

Tacoma, Wash. — Museum of Glass will present its third installment of Hot Shop Live! on Saturday, August 30 from noon to 1 pm. This episode will feature Irish glass artist Fred Curtis, who is also part of the current exhibition CAUTION! Fragile. Irish Glass: Tradition in Transition. Guests for the show include Irish glass artist and exhibition curator Róisín de Buitléar and the Seattle-based Carrigaline Celtic Band. The theme of the episode will be expanding on the concepts and ideas in the current exhibition and reflecting on the traditions in Irish glass and the new future for Irish artists.

Curtis, who works out of his studio in Wexford, Ireland, is recognized around the world as one of the most talented crystal sculptors currently working in the field.

Trained and employed for 30 years at Waterford Crystal, Curtis has created pieces that have been presented to the world’s most famous public figures such as Mother Teresa and Queen Elizabeth, as well as notable commissions for Bill and Hillary Clinton and Clint Eastwood. He has also designed and produced many international sports trophies for events such as the MLB World Series, Formula 1 and Golf Championships.

Hot Shop Live! will be broadcast on August 30 from 12 pm to 1 pm. The show is open to the public and is free with Museum admission.
