Join the Racial Equity Conversation on Jan. 20

Discussion to focus on Human Rights and Racial Equity 

Martin Luther King Jr. Day provides an opportunity to reflect on human rights issues, and Tacomans are encouraged to join the conversation about racial equity on Monday, Jan. 20 from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at the Greater Tacoma Convention and Trade Center, room 315 and 316 (1500 Broadway in downtown Tacoma). 

Participants will discuss the following prompts:

• Imagine two years from now, what would have taken place for Tacoma to be recognized for its effort to create opportunities for racial equity?
• What would you have contributed?

“Six months ago 250 people gathered to discuss race relations following the Trayvon Martin verdict, and it seems fitting, as a we approach the anniversary of that case and reflect on Dr. King’s vision for racial equality, that we gather together to continue the dialogue,” said Victoria Woodards, City of Tacoma Deputy Mayor. “Racial equity and human rights are important issues for us to discuss and examine as a community.” 

The conversation will be facilitated by the City of Tacoma Human Rights Commission, Tacoma Urban League, Black Collective, Tacoma Ministerial Alliance, and the NAACP.
