Lawver Campaign Engages Community

TACOMA—Yesterday more than 50 volunteers from Tacoma and the Washington Bus hit the streets to encourage voters in the 29th Legislative District to fill out their ballots and to vote Ben Lawver for state representative. The 29th Legislative District has historically underperformed in primary elections. The campaign hopes to increase voter turnout by talking one on one with voters about how the state legislature can better help the district’s people, create more jobs, and improve our schools.

Lawver is one of the co-founders of the Washington Bus, an organization that seeks to get young people engaged in politics and civic life.

“After years working on community issues, I saw firsthand how few organizations tried to engage young people. Our campaign makes a true effort to empower all our volunteers,” Lawver said.

Lawver has received an outburst of support from the community, in part, because of his experience working with a diverse array of organizations.

“Ben will be an effective legislator. His experience on a variety of issues will serve the community well,” Pierce County Prosecutor Mark Lindquist said Sunday as Lawver and the volunteers were talking to voters.

The Washington Bus is one of 57 organizations and almost 30 current elected officials supporting Ben Lawver’s campaign. He has the support of Tacoma Pierce County Professional Fire Fighters, Washington Council of Police and Sheriffs, Tacoma Pierce County Black Collective, Pierce County Conservation Voters, and the Pierce County Labor Council to name a few. Elected officials supporting Lawver include Sen. Steve Conway, Tacoma City Council Members David Boe, Ryan Mello, and Marty Campbell, State Representatives Laurie Jinkins and Tami Green and Tacoma School Board President Catherine Ushka.
