Learn About & Share Feedback On Proposed Changes to Comprehensive Plan & Land Use Regulatory Code

The City of Tacoma will host two information sessions on Aug. 12 and 13, as well as a Planning Commission public hearing on Aug. 19, to give community members a chance to familiarize themselves with this year’s proposed changes to the Comprehensive Plan and Land Use Regulatory Code. The document includes, among other things, a detailed review of Mixed-Use Centers; proposed regulatory changes to support housing affordability and the development of vacant or underused parcels within areas that are already largely developed; and a proposed Narrowmoor Addition Conservation District, which would establish a historic conservation district to protect the character of a portion of the West Slope Neighborhood west of Jackson Avenue.
“The proposal also includes significant updates to the Comprehensive Plan to renew the City’s vision and growth strategies, and better reflect the community’s needs, desires and priorities,” said Planning Services Manager Brian Boudet. “This is a real opportunity to help shape the future of Tacoma, and be part of the community conversation about how we should progress and develop over the next 20 or 30 years.”
The information session on Wednesday, Aug. 12 will take place from 6 - 8 p.m. at Baker Middle School (8001 S. J St.) and the one on Thursday, Aug. 13 will take place from 6 - 8 p.m. at Stadium High School (111 N. E St.).
The Planning Commission public hearing will be on Wednesday, Aug. 19 at 5 p.m. in the Tacoma Municipal Building Council Chambers (747 Market St., 1st Floor).
